I believe in serendipity—I just have to! You see, I’d just begun researching this book, when I received an out-of-the-blue email from Dwight A. Greene about his haunted bookstore in Fort Worth. Mr. Greene was full of information, and after reading his email, I was so intrigued I just had to delve into his place a little further.

Dwight and Sheila Greene own Greene’s Antiques and Barber’s Books, both in the same building in downtown Fort Worth. The structure is almost 100 years old, built in 1908, and a portion of the old bookstore is a former hotel that was part of the red-light district of Fort Worth. If any building deserves to have a few spirits hanging around, this one certainly does. It is located on the outskirts of an area of Fort Worth that used to be known as “Hell’s Half Acre” in the Wild West days of the city. The area was filled with saloons, gambling establishments, and houses of ill repute. Shootings and gunfights were commonplace at the time.
